On the 31st of October is the day of celebrating Halloween among all English-speaking countries, e.g. Great Britain, the United States, etc.

Here are the opinions written by some students from our school about celebrating Halloween in Poland.

Halloween is one of the best-known American tradition. In the recent years it is becoming more and more popular. But is it so popular in Poland? I believe that Halloween is not as common in Poland as in the other countries. It results from the fact that most people think that the celebration of Halloween is a terrible thing and people who believe in God should not celebrate this holiday. I think every person can celebrate Halloween and everyone can do it in a different way. I really like Halloween and I spend this holiday with my friends. We watch horror films in the evening and listen to some scary stories. My favourite activity on this day is preparing Halloween make-up.

Halloween is one of the most popular holidays in the countries like Great Britain or the United States but it’s rarely celebrated in Poland. In my opinion, a Christian, just like me, should not celebrate this kind of holiday. I believe dead people must be respected, so dressing up and pretending being them is inappropriate.I understand that Halloween can be celebrated just for fun, not to humiliate our dead family members.

In my opinion, everybody can celebrate Halloween because it’s his or her own choice. I think this holiday is completely normal – but I don’t celebrate it, because it’s not a Polish tradition. Anyway, I adore all the costumes and make-ups. I think that everyone can have his or her opinion about this, so the others should respect it. I don’t mind celebrating Halloween, because if we want to be treated well by society, we have to treat the others as well.

I am very curious about the Halloween happening this year. I am going to London with my family soon. I am very happy because I will spend time with my relatives. I’m looking forward to seeing what it is going on in London. In my opinion, Halloween is cool!

I really like Halloween. I love going on trick or treat with my friends and wearing costumes. We often make them ourselves. Then we usually go to my friend’s house to play apple bobbing. She always decorates her house with some scary stuff. In the evening we carve pumpkins and tell each other spooky stories or watch some horror movies. It’s really great.

I think that we don’t need to celebrate this holiday in Poland. In our country catholicism is the most popular religion and Catholic people don’t celebrate it. In my opinion, if Poland wasn’t so religious, Halloween would be seen in a different way. I don’t celebrate this holiday because I believe in God and I find Halloween as a not necessary thing.

In Poland small groups of people celebrate Halloween but many Halloween gadgets can be found at different shops. Some people organize Halloween parties. The other people celebrate All Saints’ Day and go to church on the 1st of November. This is a very important day for people in Poland.

In England children walk down the streets and ask their neighbors for candies saying „trick or treat”. One of the Halloween games is pulling out apples from the bowl. You need to manage to do it not using your hands. There are many other Halloween habits. In Poland I have never experienced Halloween but I would really like to do this.

Halloween isn’t too popular in Poland. Me and my friend think it’s unnecessary and rather stupid. Instead of walking from house to house wearing scary costumes, we prefer going to a cemetery and praying for people who had already passed away.
